Powers
- Dog Whisperer The ability to communicate with members of the canidae family. Stiles’s power will be acting as a translator between his method of communication (spoken English, typically) and the dog’s method of communication, so he won’t be, say, barking at dogs, but he will be able to communicate concepts and carry on a conversation with them. Included under this umbrella is Smells Like Friend, which aids his communication ability by making him Smell Like Friend to members of the canidae family so that they are more inclined to listen to him. (The Smells Like Friend ability affects animals to differing degrees so that if anyone has a dog npc or a character with dog-like qualities, they can choose if/how much they are affected.)
- Psychometry This is a psychic ability connected to physical objects. The first basic way it typically works is sensing information “imprinted” on an object, particularly an object of significant emotional or personal value. Stiles might sense the emotion(s) connected to that item or glean information or psychic visions about the history of the item. (An unpleasant application might be, for example, going to a gravesite and sensing all the grief connected to it, or sitting in a hospital room and feeling the pain of the people who have been in that room.) The other power typically connected with this is the ability to use an object of personal significance to someone to learn about or locate the person the item belongs to. For example, holding someone’s favorite necklace and receiving a vision or understanding of where the person is or what kind of emotional state they’re in. The first option is the one that should come more naturally to Stiles, but the second is also a power he should be able to develop and control with some practice.
